For the love of the cat

Both paintings have a strong directional illumination – reminiscent of chiaroscuro of classic paintings. The impasto strokes further enhance the impact of the illumination, adding incredible detail and giving the work a sculptural quality. The thickly applied paint flows and follows the composition, gleaming in the light, with small shadows casted by the brush imprints and around paint edges. Contrasting the strong illumination and detailed paint texture is a simple and abstract composition. Just a few lines are used to define the figures and the setting.
